Ahmad Brooks on Robert Griffin III: ‘He shouldn’t be playing’

San Francisco linebacker Ahmad Brooks got a good, close look at Washington’s Robert Griffin III on Monday night, delivering two of the 49ers’ four sacks of the Redskins quarterback.

So Brooks might know what he’s talking about when he offers this assessment of the 2012 offensive rookie of the year, via Comcast SportsNet: “He’s obviously a man and he makes his own decisions, but I personally don’t feel he should be playing right now.”

Griffin has been playing on a repaired right knee after ligament damage in playoff loss back in January. When asked, Brooks confirmed that is the reason he feels RG3 doesn’t belong on the field at this point.

“I don’t think he should be playing,” he said. “You can see it. Everybody can see it, everybody can see it.”

For whatever reason, Griffin certainly isn’t playing like the same guy who led the Redskins on a seven-game winning streak to close out last season and make the playoffs as the NFC East champions. His passer rating is down from 102.4 to 81.9 and he has already thrown more than twice as many interceptions (11) than he did all of last year (5).

Monday was a particularly bad night for Griffin, who completed just one of his first six attempts for -1 yard with an incompletion during the 27-6 loss to the 49ers. He finished 17 for 27 for 127 yards with a passer rating of 58.7. Plus, many of his passes just weren’t on target.

“He’s a man, he has the heart of a warrior and is going to go out there and play regardless of the circumstance,” Brooks said. “Everybody can see it. Everybody can see it. He shouldn’t be playing.”
