Randy Moss: ‘I could still put up 15 or 16 touchdowns’

Randy Moss could still be one of the top receivers in the NFL.

Says who? Says Moss during an appearance Tuesday on “The Peter Schrager Podcast.”

“If I had to go out here and feed my family by getting back on that football field, I could still put up 15 or 16 touchdowns,” Moss said. “I can still play the game. I don’t know what a lot of people seen last year, but I know what it looked like. It looked like I was old and that they were trying to keep me fresh and things like that, but, man, I can still play the game of football.

“I’m not going to play the game of football, but for me to be able to still go out and still catch touchdowns, I can still run. I can still catch. I still got vision. So if I still got those things, if I still have the things that God blessed me with, why can’t I be able to go out there and put up 15 or 16 touchdowns? I can still do it. Age is just a number to me.”

With one game remaining in the 2013 season, New Orleans tight end Jimmy Graham leads the league with 15 touchdown receptions.

Of course, Moss was more than capable of pulling off such numbers during much of his 14-year career. Fourth all-time in TD catches with 157, Moss had 15 or more touchdown receptions four times, most recently in 2007 when he pulled in a league record 23 as a member of the New England Patriots.

But the last time we saw Moss on the football field was with the eventual NFC champion San Francisco 49ers in 2012, when he had only three touchdowns to go with 28 receptions for 434 yards.

Moss quietly retired in the off-season and now works as an analyst for Fox Football Daily.
