Rams aim to get rid of concrete area that caused Josh McCown and Reggie Bush to slip

The St. Louis Rams may have only four games left at the Edward Jones Dome, but the organization wants to make sure they’re safe ones. Or at least safer than the last two.

The Rams, one of the NFL teams who could end up moving to Los Angeles after this season, are looking to cover the concrete area behind the benches with turf or another surface that will help players keep their balance.

Fox Sports is reporting that the team has contacted the city and the league with the intention of having the issue addressed by the next home game, Nov. 15 against Chicago.

The concrete area, some 15 to 20 yards from the field, has been in the dome since the Rams started playing there in 1995. But Coach Jeff Fisher said recent injuries have prompted the team to speak to the NFL about the issue.

“Player safety is of utmost importance, and we don’t want to have any issues,” Fisher said Monday. “We’re going to do whatever we need to do to make sure we don’t have an issue with it.”

Two opposing players have been hurt in as many weeks after slipping on the surface. Last week, Houston quarterback Josh McCown ran into a wall and hit his shoulder or arm but didn’t miss any playing time. This week, 49ers running back Reggie Bush fell while trying to plant his feet and ended up with a potential season-ending knee injury.
