Rams agree to terms with free-agent cornerback Coty Sensabaugh
The Rams, unable to fulfill a stated goal of re-signing their entire secondary from last season, made a move Monday to replenish it.
The Rams agreed to terms with free-agent cornerback Coty Sensabaugh, who played the last four seasons with the Tennessee Titans. The signing gives the Rams a veteran to possibly play opposite cornerback Trumaine Johnson.
The Rams last week lost free-agent cornerback Janoris Jenkins to the New York Giants and safety Rodney McLeod to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Sensabaugh, 27, started 15 games last season. Included in his two interceptions was a return of 2013 Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston’s first career pass for a touchdown.
The 5-foot-11, 189-pound Sensabaugh was selected by the Titans in the fourth round of the 2012 draft after playing at Clemson.
The Rams on Monday also saw free-agent linebacker Daren Bates sign with the Oakland Raiders. Bates made national highlight reels in 2014 when, while playing for the Rams, he leaped over the line of scrimmage and blocked a field-goal attempt against the Giants.
Bates, 25, became an unrestricted free agent last week when the Rams did not make a qualifying offer. He played three seasons for the Rams, mainly on special teams, after joining the franchise as an undrafted free agent. He made 10 tackles last season.
The Rams were scheduled to visit Monday with free-agent defensive end Quinton Coples and receiver Rueben Randle. Coples, 25, was the New York Jets’ first-round pick in 2012. He was waived in late November last season and was signed by the Miami Dolphins. He has 16 1/2 career sacks.
Randle, 24, was a second-round pick by the Giants in 2012. He has 188 career catches, 20 for touchdowns. Randle caught 57 passes, eight for touchdowns, for the Giants last season.
Tavon Austin was the Rams’ leading receiver last season with 52 catches, five for touchdowns.
Tight end Zach Miller visited with the Rams over the weekend but re-signed with the Chicago Bears on Monday.
