The Kings got mixed news on the injury front Sunday, with Jarret Stoll returning to practice for the first time in more than a week while Kyle Clifford was forced to sit out after sustaining a blow to the head in Saturday’s 5-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks.

Clifford left the ice in the first period Saturday and did not return. The Kings did not release an update on his condition Sunday. Because Clifford’s injury was to his head, he must clear a league-mandated concussion protocol before he can be cleared to return to the ice.

Defenseman Matt Greene, who hasn’t skated in several days, was also held off the ice Sunday with an undisclosed injury.

The Kings, winners of 10 of their last 14 games, leave Monday for a four-game East Coast road trip.

With Stoll and Jeff Carter each forced to miss time with injuries, the Kings have been short-handed on their forward lines, which led the team to call up winger Linden Vey and center Tyler Toffoli on Nov. 2. The two combined for two goals and two assists Saturday.

Now with Clifford questionable going forward, the two figure to keep getting important ice time.

“Both of them showed their offensive composure and their ability to handle pucks under pressure,” Kings Coach Darryl Sutter said of Vey and Toffoli.

For Vey, his assist on the Kings’ first goal was his first career NHL point while Toffoli’s two goals -- one in the first period and one in the second -- plus a second-period assist gave him a career-best three points and five in three games since his call-up.
