With less than a week to go before Sunday’s regular-season opener, the Galaxy waived defender Dan Gargan and forward Ignacio Maganto to get its roster closer to the 28-player Major League Soccer limit. At least one more transaction is likely in the coming days.

Gargan, 33, a 10-year MLS veteran, made 54 MLS appearances for the Galaxy since signing with the team ahead of the 2014 season. Overall Gargan, who proved to be a valuable role player on the back line, made 185 MLS appearances with the Colorado Rapids, Toronto FC, Chicago Fire, San Jose Earthquakes and Galaxy.

Maganto, 24, was drafted by the Galaxy with the 21st selection in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft and played in 13 matches, scoring one goal and adding two assists. Maganto also featured for LA Galaxy II in the United Soccer League (USL) throughout the season.
