Former NFL star Donovan McNabb arrested on suspicion of DUI, again
For the second time in less than three years, former NFL quarterback Donovan McNabb has been arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.
The former Philadelphia Eagles star was arrested in the Phoenix suburb of Gilbert on June 28 after being involved in a non-injury collision, police told the Associated Press on Tuesday. McNabb was cited and released the same day.
In a statement, police claimed McNabb rear-ended another vehicle at a traffic light. Police did not indicate whether they conducted a field-sobriety test prior to McNabb’s arrest.
McNabb, who served a day in jail last year after pleading guilty to DUI in 2013, spoke briefly about his latest arrest Tuesday on his weekday NBC Sports Radio show.
“There was a story that was released, and I want everybody to be cognizant of it, because I am very aware of it, handling the matter at this particular point,” McNabb said.
McNabb played 13 seasons in the NFL, leading the Eagles to four straight NFC title games from 2001 to 2004. He retired from the NFL in 2011 after one season with the Minnesota Vikings.
