ESPN says it will address Curt Schilling’s comments about Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump

Curt Schilling may have crossed the line again.

The outspoken former MLB pitcher, who serves as a baseball commentator for ESPN, expressed some strongly worded political views during a radio interview on Tuesday, including his opinion that Hillary Clinton “should be buried under a jail somewhere.”

ESPN made its guidelines concerning election coverage public in January: “We should refrain from political editorializing, personal attacks or ‘drive-by’ comments regarding the candidates and their campaigns. Approved commentaries on sports-specific issues, or seeking responses from candidates on relevant news issues, are appropriate.”

Schilling was dropped from the network’s coverage of the Little League World Series in August and then suspended for the rest of the MLB season for tweeting a meme that compared Muslims to Nazis.

As for Schilling’s most recent political comments, an ESPN spokesperson said Wednesday, “We’re addressing it.”

Schilling has been with ESPN since 2010. He is slated to cover Monday night baseball this season after being removed from the network’s top team on Sunday nights.

During a lengthy interview Tuesday on 610 Sports in Kansas City, Schilling expressed his dislike for Clinton. He was asked if he thought the former secretary of State will go to jail after being accused of putting classified State Department emails on a private server.

“I hope she does,” Schilling said. “If I’m going to believe, and I don’t have any reason not to believe, that she gave classified information on hundreds if not thousands of emails on a public server after what happened to Gen. [David H.] Petraeus, she should buried under a jail somewhere.”

He also said of the leading Democratic presidential candidate: “If she’s allowed to get to the general election before she’s in prison, I’ll be stunned and upset.”

Schilling, known for his conservative beliefs, also was critical of leading Republican candidate Donald Trump. “Listen, he hasn’t elaborated, like, on two sentences for a policy,” Schilling said. “‘We’re going to build a wall and Mexico is going to pay for it.’ OK, how? ‘Well, I’ll tell you later.’”
