Johnny Manziel, Browns come to terms on rookie contract
Johnny Manziel isn’t going anywhere.
Unless you count little party trips all over the country. Pretty sure those are going to continue.
But Cleveland is stuck with Johnny Football now that the former Heisman Trophy winner and the Browns have reached an agreement on his rookie contract. The team announced the deal Tuesday without revealing the financial details.
Of course, the fans won’t mind having a guy like Manziel around. Not only did he throw for 7,820 yards with 63 touchdowns and rush for 2,160 yards with 30 touchdowns in two seasons at Texas A&M, the guy is a bona fide celebrity.
But his role on the team remains to be seen. New Coach Mike Pettine has said that returning starter Brian Hoyer has the early edge in the quarterbck battle but also stated that Hoyer’s lead over Manziel is not “insurmountable.”
Hoyer went 3-0 in three starts for the Browns last season before seeing his season end with a torn ACL.
