Showtime is firming up its fall boxing schedule, and it could be headlined by a Nov. 7 bout between former junior-welterweight world champions Amir Khan and Ruslan Provodnikov at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Additionally, Showtime Vice President Stephen Espinoza told The Times that he’s scheduled World Boxing Council featherweight champion Gary Russell Jr. for an Oct. 24 title defense against a yet-to-be-signed opponent at a Southland venue.

And if former middleweight champion Peter Quillin improves to 32-0-1 Saturday, as expected, in his fight in Connecticut against Michael Zerafa, he’ll be assigned to fight World Boxing Assn. “world” middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs on Dec. 5 at Barclays Center.

Espinoza said the site deal for the Southland venue to be used for Russell’s fight has yet to be finalized.

Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) formerly trained at Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood under Freddie Roach, who now trains Provodnikov (24-4), who engaged in one of the favorites for fight of the year while losing a narrow decision to Lucas Matthysse in April.

All that’s missing for the bout to be finalized, said Espinoza, is Khan’s confirmation. By defeating Provodnikov at welterweight, Khan would further his case for a shot at Floyd Mayweather Jr. next year, should Mayweather opt to fight again.
