Angels’ Jered Weaver third in AL Cy Young vote
Jered Weaver placed third in the American League Cy Young Award race, the third consecutive year the Angels’ ace has finished in the top five.
David Price of the Tampa Bay Rays won this year’s award. Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers, who won last year, finished second.
Price got 14 first-place votes, Verlander 13. The only first-place vote that went to neither Price nor Verlander went to Rays closer Fernando Rodney, who finished fifth overall.
Voters listed five choices on their ballots. One of the 28 voters left Weaver off his ballot entirely: Ben Goessling of the St. Paul (Minn.) Pioneer Press.
