The Rams issued a statement and several players posted to social media Thursday in reaction to the mass shooting at a Thousand Oaks bar about four miles from the team’s practice facility at Cal Lutheran University.

Thirteen people died in the incident, which occurred late Wednesday night at the Borderline Bar and Grill.

“The Los Angeles Rams organization is heartbroken by the horrific shooting that took place last night in our community of Thousand Oaks,” the Rams said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families and our entire community.”

A Rams representative said the organization was in the process of making sure all staff and family members were accounted for.

Coach Sean McVay said the Rams were planning to have a moment of silence before Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks at the Coliseum.

“Sometimes, me personally, you get upset about losing a game or whatever and this kind of brings you back down and you really realize what’s important in life and sometimes you take some of these things for granted,” McVay said.

McVay said the shooting was addressed during a team meeting, and that veteran offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth took the lead with other players “to proactively pursue doing something to use the platform that we do have to support the people that were affected by this.”

Several Rams players posted their thoughts to Twitter:

“Heartbroken for our community,” quarterback Jared Goff wrote. “Thinking about everyone involved as well as friends and family of the victims. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”

“Heart broken this morning!” Whitworth wrote, adding, “I promise to find a way to help support our community through this tragedy!”

Punter Johnny Hekker, who lives in Thousand Oaks, receiver Cooper Kupp and defensive lineman Morgan Fox also offered prayers and support for the victims and their families.
