World record for U.S. women in medley relay

LONDON -- The U.S. women’s swim team punctuated a commanding performance at the London Olympics with one more gold medal and another world record, winning the 400-meter medley relay Saturday night and giving teenager Missy Franklin her fourth gold in the Summer Games.

Franklin (backstroke), Rebecca Soni (breaststroke), Dana Vollmer (butterfly) and anchor Allison Schmitt (freestyle) won the relay in 3 minutes, 52.05 seconds.

Australia was second and Japan took third.

It was the second world record in two days for the 17-year-old Franklin, who will leave London with four gold medals and one bronze in her Olympic debut.
