London Olympics: U.S. men’s gymnastics mired in 8th after rings
The U.S. performed its third rotation on the still rings and continued its trend of scoring a lower number than it had in qualifying. Jake Dalton led off with a 15.033, 2008 Olympic veteran Jonathan Horton had a 15.266 and John Orozco, who has dreams of winning an all-around gold medal, had a nervous showing in which the rings were constantly moving.
Though he was last up for the U.S., in the spot where the highest score should be expected, Orozco had the team low of 14.958.
Through the first three rotations, the Americans is in eighth place, more than eight points behind leading China and more than six points out of a medal position. Japan is second and Great Britain is third.
