The cheering section for the LA 2024 Olympic bid is nearly full, according to a recent telephone poll.

More than 88% of Angelenos are in favor of the city’s hosting the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games bid, according to a survey conducted by Loyola Marymount University, which received 2,425 responses.

Meanwhile, 12% of those who responded opposed the hosting of the Games.

“The LMU poll finding enthusiastic public support for LA 2024’s Olympic and Paralympic Games bid is a very strong indication that Angelenos have confidence in our fiscally responsible, sustainable and innovative plan for the Games,” LA 2024 Chairman Casey Wasserman said in a release.

An innovative plan from a veteran host city.

L.A. was the host of the 1932 and 1984 Games and in its first filings to the International Olympic Committee last week, the LA 2024 group boasted that 97% of the required venues for the games were already in existence or planned.

“Hosting a new Games for a new era doesn’t just fit the bricks and mortar of our city; it fits our citizens’ relentless spirit of reinvention,” Mayor Eric Garcetti said in a statement. “Angelenos welcomed the world with open arms in 1984 and we have experienced the benefits ever since, so we’re excited by the prospect of doing it again at a reimagined Games in 2024.”

Paris, Rome and Budapest, Hungary, are other potential host cities for the 2024 Summer Games.

The IOC will announce the 2024 host city in September 2017.
