Robert Sacre re-signs with Lakers after surviving rookie season
Robert Sacre was delighted. It had nothing to do with signing a one-year contract with the Lakers.
“Is that a Canucks hat?” he said half-amazed to a reporter wearing one Wednesday.
Sacre, a native of Canada, is willing to talk about hockey or really anything else as one of the few always-ebullient players on last season’s downtrodden Lakers team.
He’s happy to be back with the Lakers for about $1 million.
“I feel situated here, I feel comfortable here and I enjoy it,” Sacre said Wednesday. “I love being a Laker.”
The 7-foot backup center averaged 1.3 points and 1.1 rebounds in 32 games last season as a rookie after being selected with the 60th and final pick in the 2012 draft.
Last season, though, wasn’t always so fun, with the Lakers’ obvious lack of on-court chemistry, the persistent battle of an aging roster against frequent injuries, and a first-round playoff flame-out against San Antonio.
“I’ve definitely seen more in one year than most guys have seen in five,” Sacre said. “I’m glad I went through it. Now I can just move on and just keep working on my game.”
