Longtime Lakers fans might want to visit Staples Center on Tuesday to meet Hall of Famer and former coach Bill Sharman.

Sharman guided the Lakers to their first championship in Los Angeles with Jerry West and Wilt Chamberlain in 1972. He’ll be on hand with former Los Angeles Times scribe Steve Springer, signing copies of Springer’s new book “100 Things Lakers Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die.”

The book details what it says are the team’s most “critical moments and important facts about past and present players, coaches and teams that are part of the storied history that is Lakers basketball.”

In addition to his title as coach with the Lakers, Sharman won four titles as a guard for the Boston Celtics. That’s right, the Lakers turned to a former rival to finally get the team over the hump.

Sharman also served as general manager, club president and special consultant for the Lakers. He’s credited with introducing the shoot-around on game days.

The Lakers will play host to the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday. The Sharman and Springer book signing will start at 6 p.m.
