Lakers set to sign Euroleague veteran guard Marcelo Huertas
The Lakers have reached an agreement to sign Euroleague guard Marcelo Huertas to a one-year contract, The Times confirmed Monday afternoon.
Huertas, a 32-year-old Brazilian national team player, spent the last four years in Spain playing for FC Barcelona.
He averaged 7.6 points and 4.4 assists in 28 games last season.
Huertas, 6 feet 3, was known to play both point guard and shooting guard for Barcelona, making him a potential valuable asset for the Lakers.
He’ll join a Lakers backcourt of Kobe Bryant, rookie point guard D’Angelo Russell, second-year guard Jordan Clarkson and free-agent pickup Lou Williams.
Huertas, who played high school basketball in Texas, shot 40.3% from the field last season, including 36.5% from three-point range.
