Pau Gasol misses practice to get MRI on left foot
Lakers center/forward Pau Gasol missed practice Monday to get an MRI scan on his left foot.
Gasol suffered an injury Friday in the Lakers’ 123-87 loss to the Clippers.
The Lakers have struggled with injuries through most of the season. Early in the year, Gasol played through an ankle sprain, and he recently missed three games with bronchitis and a sinus infection.
Through 34 games, Gasol is averaging 15.6 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists while playing 30.8 minutes a night.
With Gasol unavailable to talk to media after practice, it’s unclear what specific play led to the foot injury.
Only eight players went through practice, with Kobe Bryant (knee), Steve Nash (back), Steve Blake (elbow), Jordan Farmar (hamstring), Xavier Henry (knee) and Gasol all out Monday.
“Last year, we had some injuries, but the guys were kind of playing with it,” Coach Mike D’Antoni said. “[We] had Kobe last year, playing too many minutes but you had him as a constant all year. We were able to withstand it. This year, the injuries took out some heart out of some of the guys. We haven’t been able to overcome it yet.”
The Lakers (14-23) have lost 10 of their last 11 games. They host the Cleveland Cavaliers (13-24) on Tuesday before embarking on a seven-game road trip.
