Lakers hire James Worthy to help coach frontcourt players
The Lakers have hired James Worthy to help work with the team’s coaching staff.
“James was one of the best forwards to ever play the game,” said General Manager Mitch Kupchak in a statement Monday. “We feel he will be a valuable addition to the coaching staff and will do an excellent job teaching our group of big men. We are pleased and fortunate to welcome him back to the organization.”
Worthy will continue as an analyst for Time Warner Cable SportsNet, but will also travel with the team to Hawaii for training camp and will work with the players over the course of the season.
“It means a lot,” said second-year forward Julius Randle. “Learning from him last year, during the preseason, was huge for me.
Worthy spent some time in an unofficial capacity last season helping Randle and other frontcourt players.
“It’s going to be fun to be able to pick his brain again,” said Randle.
