Lakers, Clippers likely to meet in Christmas Day game
The Lakers will apparently be home for Christmas. So will the Clippers.
The teams are tentatively scheduled to play each other Dec. 25 in a designated Lakers home game at Staples Center, The Times has learned.
The Lakers and Clippers met on Christmas one other time, in 1991, with the Lakers winning, 85-75. The NBA will finalize the league’s entire schedule next week.
The “Hallway Series” hasn’t been very competitive the last three years. The Clippers hold a decisive 11-1 edge, including a 142-94 rout in March 2014 that marked the Lakers’ most one-sided loss in franchise history.
The Lakers are 6-11 on Christmas in the Kobe Bryant era, though he hasn’t played every time. He sat out last year’s loss at Chicago so he could rest. The game was the Lakers’ first on the road for Christmas since 2006.
There is also a New Year’s Day game tentatively scheduled for the Lakers against Philadelphia at Staples Center.
