Kobe Bryant auction items to be displayed at Newport Sports Museum
A pair of Kobe Bryant’s 2000 NBA championship rings and two of the Lakers star’s high school uniforms will be among the auction items on display Tuesday through Friday at the Newport Sports Museum in Newport Beach.
Bryant’s 2000 NBA All-Star game ring and his 1996 Magic Roundball Classic All-Star medallion and ribbon will also be on display from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the museum located at 100 Newport Center Drive. Admission is free to the public.
As of Monday, there had been a bid for more than $55,000 for one of the championship rings and more than $20,000 for the high school uniforms, according to Doug Drotman of Goldin Auctions, which is conducting the auction that runs through July 19.
Half of the proceeds from the high school jerseys, the All-Star game ring and the All-Star medallion and ribbon will benefit the BULLY Project, an anti-bullying campaign that seeks to foster a culture of empathy.
The auction items were among a larger cache of memorabilia that had originally been consigned by Bryant’s mother, Pamela, before his lawyers contended that she was not authorized to sell them.
The parties settled the matter last month by agreeing to sell only some of the items, with proceeds from four of the items benefiting charity.
