Colin Kaepernick, the 49ers’ second-year dual-threat quarterback, had one of the most memorable NFL playoff performances in recent history during a 45-31 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Saturday.

The 6-foot-6 scrambler from Nevada set a playoff record for quarterbacks with 181 yards rushing -- and that included two late knee-down plays for one-yard losses. He scored on runs of 20 and 56 yards, the latter another postseason record for a quarterback, eclipsing a 51-yard run by Tennessee’s Steve McNair in 2000.

Kaepernick also passed for two touchdowns and 256 yards as San Francisco amassed 579 yards of offense.

“Any time your teammates have confidence in you and they feel good about what you’re doing, it makes you feel like you’re doing the right things,” Kaepernick said.

Kaepernick probably wouldn’t be playing had highly effective starter Alex Smith not sustained a concussion during a 24-24 tie with the St. Louis Rams on Nov. 11.

Said 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree of Kaepernick: “Guy’s playing football, man, he’s making it happen. He’s a playmaker.”
