Announcer Gus Johnson is leaving CBS for Fox
Gus Johnson is leaving CBS, where he was noted for his enthusiastic play-by-play calls of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, and coming to Fox Sports.
Johnson and Charles Davis will be Fox’s new No. 1 college football announcing team, according to Eric Shanks, co-president of Fox Sports Media Group.
Davis has worked for the Big Ten Network and as a college football analyst for TBS among his broadcast jobs.
Shanks said Johnson and Davis will do about 15 college football games during the regular season as well as the Cotton Bowl.
Johnson said he “lost sleep” over giving up March Madness. “But I’m excited about moving forward,” he added. “To steal a line from LeBron James, I’m taking my talents to Hollywood.”
Next season, Johnson and Davis will call Pacific 12 Conference, Big 12 Conference and Conference USA regular-season football games as well as one of Fox’s conference football championship games and the Cotton Bowl. Johnson also will continue to work for the Big Ten network and will be on some Fox NFL broadcasts after the college season.
Additionally, Johnson will call the Pac-12 men’s basketball tournament when Fox has the event beginning in 2013.
