Boys’ basketball: Beverly Hills wins first title since 1969
Normans celebrate victory over Corona del Mar
Eight consecutive free throws by Denzel Holt in the final 1:19 helped Beverly Hills win its first Southern Section championship since 1969 with a 55-47 win over Corona del Mar on Friday night in the 3A final at Azusa Pacific.
Holt and Jalen Sands finished with 12 points apiece. Chance Comanche had 10 points, five rebounds and four blocks. Samuel Kobrine led Corona del Mar with 16 points.
“It feels good,” said Beverly Hills Coach Jarvis Turner, who took over the program after being the head coach at Birmingham. “A lot of hard work over the last couple of years. These kids deserve it. They work hard every single day. They don’t complain. They’re selfless. I’m proud of them.”
