Baseball: Tyler Glasnow promotion gives Hart High a fifth player in the major leagues
There’s no high school in California and maybe in the nation with more current graduates in the major leagues than Newhall Hart High, which will have five graduates come Thursday when the Pittsburgh Pirates promote top prospect Tyler Glasnow to pitch against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Glasnow, 22, is a 2011 Hart grad and will be the fourth former Hart pitcher in the majors. He joins Trevor Bauer (Indians), Mike Montgomery (Mariners) and James Shields (White Sox), along with catcher Trevor Brown (Giants).
Hart Coach Jim Ozella coached all five ex-Hart players and is particularly excited about Glasnow’s promotion.
“Tyler has worked hard to achieve and has progressed tremendously at each level,” he said in a text. “I am extremely excited for him and his family.”
Hart is located in the Santa Clarita Valley, home to some of the most dedicated and talented baseball players in the state.
