Baseball: Alemany unleashes Brandon Lewis in 5-2 win over ECR

Junior Brandon Lewis sparks win for Warriors

Alemany was ranked No. 3 in the preseason top 25 rankings by The Times, and junior first baseman-pitcher Brandon Lewis was listed by Coach Randy Thompson as one of his top newcomers.

Thompson wasn’t kidding. A junior varsity player last season who batted .523 and also pitched, Lewis delivered the tie-breaking RBI single in the sixth inning and threw two scoreless innings of relief to pick up the victory in a 5-2 win over El Camino Real on Wednesday in the Easton tournament.

The 6-foot-2, 230-pound first baseman already has a scholarship offer from Cal State Northridge, whose coach, Greg Moore, was at the game. If Moore was hoping Lewis might stay a secret, he can forget that. He has four hits in six at-bats and looked impressive on the mound in his closer role.

“He’s got good sink on his fastball and pounds the strike zone,” Alemany Coach Randy Thompson said.

About the only batter hotter than Lewis is El Camino Real junior catcher Eric Yang, who had a double and single and is now six for seven on the season.

Jeremy Polon took the loss for the Conquistadores (2-1). Marc Michiel and James Terrazas had RBI singles for El Camino Real.

Junior Will Picketts went three for three for Alemany. He’s the son of Pierce College baseball Coach Bill Picketts.
