Christian group names Clayton Kershaw a top 10 story for 2012

The biggest prize may have eluded Clayton Kershaw last season, but that hardly means he has gone without recognition.

Kershaw, who finished second in the National League Cy Young award voting last season after winning it the year before, was previously honored as the 2012 Roberto Clemente Award winner, baseball’s highest humanitarian award.

Now, on top of the Clemente Award, if largely because of it, Kershaw on Thursday was named one of the top 10 stories of the year by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

The FCA is a national organization with an international outreach that encompasses athletes from youth sports through the professional ranks, and tries to influence the sports world through Christianity.

Kershaw, 24, was chosen to the FCA’s list for winning the Clemente award. Kershaw and his wife, Ellen, have started a charity, Kershaw’s Challenge, and are helping to build an orphanage in Zambia.

The Kershaws wrote a book, “Arise,” last year to tell the story of their faith and passion to help those in Africa.

The FCA’s top 10 stories were not ranked in any particular order.
