Tyler Anderson loses perfect game bid in the sixth; Trea Turner exits game

There won’t be history made tonight.

With one out in the sixth inning, Tyler Anderson lost his perfect game bid, with César Hernández hitting a double to become the Nationals first baserunner of the night.

Anderson gave up a single in the next at-bat, but then escaped the jam by getting Lane Thomas to rolling into an inning-ending double-play.

The Dodgers continued to pad their lead in the top half of the frame, scoring three more runs including two on a Trea Turner single.

However, Turner left the game between innings. He was replaced by Hanser Alberto, who took over at second base. Gavin Lux shifted to shortstop.

End 6th: Dodgers lead 9-0

Tyler Anderson remains perfect through five innings ... but rain could be on the way

Tyler Anderson’s perfect game bid is still intact through five innings, after he once again retired the side in order. He also picked up his fifth strikeout of the night.

Anderson’s pitch count is in good shape, currently at 50.

However, the weather could pose a problem if he keeps his perfect game bid going.

The forecast says it should start raining in the next half-hour — and doesn’t show much sign of letting up later in the night.

The Dodgers offense, meanwhile, tacked on a run in the top of the fifth on a Cody Bellinger RBI double.

End 5th: Dodgers lead 6-0

Dodgers benefit from two dropped balls by Juan Soto to extend lead

Juan Soto dropped two balls in right field in the fourth inning that led to three Dodgers runs.

The first one was a difficult play, with Soto trying to leap at the wall on a deep drive by Chris Taylor. Soto got his glove to it, but couldn’t haul it in, leading to an RBI triple.

Two batters later, Mookie Betts hit a fly ball to right. Soto drifted back too far, then tried to come in at the last second. He got his glove to it again, but couldn’t complete the catch. It was initially ruled a double for Betts, and led to two more Dodgers runs.

Mid 4th: Dodgers lead 5-0

Dodgers strike for two early runs as Mookie Betts extends scoring streak

Trea Turner marked his return to Nationals Park with an RBI in his first at-bat, hitting a run-scoring gorunder after Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman led the game off with a single and double, respectively.

Will Smith doubled the lead two batters later with an RBI single.

For Betts, the run scored made it 11 straight games in which he’s crossed the plate. That’s one shy of the LA franchise record set by Rafael Furcal.

End 1st: Dodgers lead 2-0

Trea Turner and Daniel Hudson honored with tribute videos in return to DC

Trea Turner and Daniel Hudson were both honored in a pregame tribute video at Nationals Park in their first trip back to Washington since being traded last year.

They both tipped their cap to an ovation from the crowd.

Turner talked to reporters about his homecoming before the game, reflecting fondly on his time with the Nationals.

“When you look back and think about what you’ve been through and where you come from, it’s definitely special,” Turner said. “I’m not out here crying. I don’t feel emotional about it. But it’s just who I am, just trying to take it moment by moment.”

Turner spent the first seven years of his MLB career with the Nationals. Hudson was with the Nationals from 2019 to 2021. They were both key parts of the club’s 2019 World Series title.

ICYMI: Max Muncy blunder opens door to Phillies walk-off win over Dodgers

PHILADELPHIA — The play seemed to unfold almost in slow motion.

A bouncing grounder. A high hop. A booted ball by second baseman Max Muncy, rolling helplessly away from him on a bright, sunny — and suddenly dreadful — Philadelphia day.

A game the Dodgers should have won on Sunday against the Phillies instead came unraveled all at once, with Muncy’s fielding error leading to two runs and a walk-off 4-3 win for the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

Clinging to a one-run lead with Phillies runners on second and third in the bottom of the 10th inning, the Dodgers were one out away from a win when Alec Bohm sent the softly-hit chopper Muncy’s way.
