Dodgers name Stan Kasten’s favorite No.2, Bob Wolfe, executive VP

One constant of the Frank and Jamie McCourt ownership of the Dodgers was a constant front office turnover.

Bodies came and went so quickly that it sometimes became difficult to know who was in charge of what. Either they wanted out, the McCourts drove them out, or after their divorce, bodies loyal to Jamie McCourt were simply sent packing.

When Stan Kasten arrived, he quickly surveyed the organizational landscape and recognized the management shortcomings.

On Thursday he moved to add some front-office heft, returning to his favorite right-hand man Bob Wolfe.

Wolfe was Kasten’s No. 2 man with the NBA’s Hawks, the Braves and Nationals, and now has followed him to the Dodgers, where he was announced as the team’s new executive vice president.

“Bob was integral to the success we enjoyed in Atlanta and Washington,” Kasten said in a statement, “and his experience and skill at implementing improvements will be most welcome as we move forward with our work here in Los Angeles.”

Wolfe was well-regarded with the Nationals, where he also served as their executive vice president until resigning in September.

“Stan was the face of the Nationals. Bob was the foundation,” Harolyn Cardozo, Nationals’ special assistant to the general manager, told the Washington Post when Wolfe resigned. “Everything that Stan did was backed up by Bob. Stan would talk about what we were going to do. Bob did it.”

The Dodgers said Wolfe’s expertise in the business side of baseball helped Kasten build the Braves into a power in the 1990s. They figure to work together in any updating of Dodger Stadium, the two having teamed to help build and operate Turner Field and Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
