Dave Roberts: Hyun-Jin Ryu reports ‘normal soreness’ after Monday bullpen session
Reporting from PHOENIX — Here is your daily dose of Hyun-Jin Ryu updates:
Ryu threw a 30-pitch bullpen session on Monday. He reported “normal soreness,” Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts said. Ryu is recovering from shoulder surgery that cost him all of 2015.
Ryu only threw fastballs on Monday. Roberts and pitching coach Rick Honeycutt have discussed when to incorporate offspeed pitches into Ryu’s workouts, but have not decided on a date.
“As it stands now, we’re thinking the priority is just upping the volume,” Roberts said before his team worked at Camelback Ranch.
Roberts indicated on Monday that Ryu is about two weeks behind his teammates. It looks unlikely that the left-hander will be ready for the start of the season, given the caution which the organization is exercising with him this spring.
