Dodgers’ Yasiel Puig suffers setback in rehab game

It might have been raining in Denver for the Dodgers, but it was darkest for them in the Inland Empire.

Running to first base in the fifth inning of his second rehabilitation game for Class-A Rancho Cucamonga, Yasiel Puig felt his sore hamstring tighten up and pulled up about halfway down the line.

According to the Quakes, he picked up his bat and immediately left the California League game.

Puig, who homered in his first at-bat, was scheduled to play six or seven innings in the game against the High Desert Mavericks in Adelanto.

The outfielder is eligible to come off the disabled list Sunday, although Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly had said the earliest he would rejoin the team would be Monday, when the team returns to Los Angeles after its three-game series with the Colorado Rockies.

Puig’s setback Friday figures to push that timetable back.
