Dodgers’ Howie Kendrick could be out until mid-September
The Dodgers tried to put up the brave face regarding Howie Kendrick’s strained hamstring, but reality would not go away.
Kendrick, placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday, could be out until mid-September.
Manager Don Mattingly said Tuesday an MRI exam on Kendrick’s left hamstring showed a strain between a Grade 1 and 2. The Dodgers said Kendrick had a platelet-rich plasma injection Monday.
“Any time you hear hamstring, you assume a minimum of three weeks,” Mattingly said. “I’m sure it will be more than that, but we’ll see as we go along.”
Kendrick had gone on the DL three previous times in his career with hamstring issues.
Meanwhile, third baseman Justin Turner (leg infection) is returning to Dodger Stadium from Phoenix.
“J.T. is on his way back now, driving back to L.A. today,” Mattingly said. “He took live [batting practice] today and it sounds like he’s coming back here and will have a couple more days of just going through things and hopefully by this weekend we’ll have him.”
Mattingly said Turner would not be activated Wednesday.
