La Cañada Unified urges calm as employee tests positive for coronavirus
La Cañada Unified school officials urged the local school community to remain calm and engage in social-distancing measures, after a district employee last week tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
In an email Friday to families, LCUSD Supt. Wendy Sinnette said she’d just heard of the transmission and had been in contact with county school and public health officials, who advised her on the importance of protecting the privacy of the infected employee.
“While there was no exposure to any of our students, staff or families, I want to remind you to please follow public health guidelines to keep you and your family healthy and safe,” Sinnette said in the email.
Sinnette encouraged families to practice good hygiene, including frequent hand washing and maintaining a 6-foot distance from others.
She also invited parents to remotely attend a March 31 school board meeting during which the board gave a comprehensive update on the district’s response to the coronavirus pandemic and decided on whether to extend the physical closure of all school campuses until May 5.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the Los Angeles County Public Health Department had recorded eight cases of the novel coronavirus in the La Cañada Flintridge reporting area.
“As a community we are united in combating the spread of COVID-19 and must all do our parts to stay healthy and safe,” Sinnette said. “Thank you for all you are doing to flatten the COVID-19 infection curve.”
