A 19-year-old Lawndale man was arrested Saturday after police said he was found with multiple bags of marijuana and two loaded handguns during a traffic stop in Glendale.

Jose Sanchez was arrested on suspicion of possessing marijuana for sale and possessing the two weapons, according to Tahnee Lightfoot, a spokeswoman for the Glendale Police Department.

She said Sanchez was initially pulled over near the intersection of Verdugo Road and Mountain Street around 2 a.m. after an officer noticed his vehicle had illegally tinted windows.

The officer could “smell a strong odor of marijuana” coming from the vehicle, according to Lightfoot. She said Sanchez was also an unlicensed driver and gave a fake name during the stop.

During a search of the vehicle, Lightfoot said the officer found a loaded 9-millimeter handgun between the driver- and passenger-side seats. A .30 caliber handgun was also found in the trunk of the vehicle.

Several bags of marijuana and more than $1,000 in cash were also found, according to Lightfoot.

It was also discovered that Sanchez had an open $2-million arrest warrant for an attempted murder and a second warrant for an assault with a deadly weapon in Los Angeles.
