Grandson of slain Glendale couple hospitalized with ‘significant’ injuries from car crash
An investigation at a Glendale home in the 600 block of Alexander Street on June 29, where the bodies of a couple were found the day before.
The person of interest in the double homicide in Glendale was hospitalized with “significant” injuries several days ago after crashing his car, police said.
Detectives have not yet interviewed the man, identified as Nathaniel Scheiern, who is the 34-year-old grandson of the elderly couple found dead in their home on Sunday, said Glendale Police Sgt. Robert William.
At around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, authorities responded to the couple’s home, located in the 600 block of Alexander Street, after an out-of-state relative reported that she’d not heard from them and was concerned.
Police entered through the front door, which was ajar, and discovered the two bodies, which were significantly decomposed.
Neighbors said the couple lived in the home for more than 20 years, but Scheiern just moved in about a year ago.
The killings don’t appear to be a random act of violence, as the investigation doesn’t indicate there was an intruder, and money was left in plain sight, William said.
Detectives are monitoring Scheiern and plan to interview him as soon as he’s medically cleared.
Information about how the victims were killed was not available.
Los Angeles County coroner’s officials identified the male victim as 77-year-old William Karl Scheiern. The female victim has not been identified.
Neighbor Hermik Khosrve, who has lived next to the couple for 26 years, dropped by the home Monday afternoon to place flowers on the front lawn, which was lined with yellow police tape.
“She was a very generous lady,” said another woman who worked at the victim’s dentist’s office.
The woman, who asked not to be identified, added that the victim paid for her grandson’s dental work. “She didn’t deserve this,” she said.
Authorities were at the residence Monday processing the crime scene, wearing shoe covers, face masks and gloves.
There have been three homicide deaths in Glendale this year.
In April, a woman was found dead with a gunshot wound in a hotel room at the Days Inn.
