Parks in Glendale were closed this past weekend because of the Easter holiday. City officials made the decision to close the parks during a time when people are advised to stay at home in an effort to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Parks were scheduled to reopen on Monday.

“We’ve had issues at some of our parks,” City Manager Yasmin Beers said during a City Council meeting this past Tuesday, singling out continued gatherings at Brand Park, where gates allowing cars to enter were closed by Wednesday.

Glendale officials had already shuttered hiking trails and other recreational facilities, including playgrounds, gyms and a public pool.
