Glendale Police limits lobby access amid coronavirus concerns
The Glendale Police Department is limiting public access to its front lobby in an attempt to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus.
The department made the announcement on Tuesday, saying in a statement that the new restriction will be in place until further notice.
However, the agency did say it will allow for some exceptions including vehicle impound releases, people who require legally mandated check-ins with law enforcement and situations that require immediate police attention. People are still encouraged to call 911 in the event of an emergency.
The department also said any calls police respond to where they may encounter someone experiencing symptoms of the flu, fever or respiratory distress should be disclosed immediately to an operator in order for officers to take any necessary safety precautions.
If anyone does arrive at the department’s headquarters and is in need of assistance, they are advised to use a phone next to the main entrance that will connect them to an operator. A report can also be taken over the phone by calling (818) 548-4911.
Visits to the Glendale City Jail are also being limited to lawyers and members of the clergy, according to the department.
