Costa Mesa asks residents for input on city manager search
The city of Costa Mesa is asking residents to use a new online survey to give their input on the qualities they would like to see in the next city manager.
As part of the brief questionnaire, participants can identify the top three issues they believe the city faces and outline the attributes they feel are most important for whoever takes over as Costa Mesa’s head administrative employee. They also can consider contributing a question they would like candidates to answer during the interview process.
The anonymous survey is available in English and Spanish at costamesaca.gov. Responses are due by Feb. 15.
Versions also can be printed from the website and mailed to Ralph Andersen & Associates, a Rocklin, Calif.-based consulting firm the city retained for the city manager search. The cost of that agreement is $32,500, according to city staff.
Former city manager Tom Hatch departed in November after the City Council voted to terminate his contract. Since then, Assistant City Manager Tamara Letourneau has taken over the role on a temporary basis.
City Council members will discuss at their next meeting Tuesday whether to create an ad hoc transition team that would work with staff, Ralph Andersen & Associates and former Newport Beach city manager Dave Kiff — whose services the council retained last month at no cost — to assist the recruitment process.
As proposed, the team would consist of Mayor Katrina Foley, Mayor Pro Tem John Stephens and Councilwoman Arlis Reynolds.
Tuesday’s council meeting starts at 6 p.m. at the Costa Mesa Senior Center, 695 W. 19th St.
