‘Eaters shining in Cape Cod League
UC Irvine baseball players Christian Koss, Cameron Bishop and Andre Pallante are off to strong starts for their respective teams in the prestigious Cape Cod Summer League.
Koss, who was a freshman in 2017, was hitting a team-best .394 through Thursday for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. The infielder had gone nine for 15 in his previous five games, heading into Friday action.
Koss had one home run, five RBIs and one stolen base in 14 games.
Bishop, a 26th-round draft choice of the Baltimore Orioles in June who missed the 2017 UCI season with an oblique muscle injury, was 1-0 in two games for the Chatham Anglers through Thursday. He had thrown six innings, allowing four hits and one earned run, with 10 strikeouts and two walks.
If Bishop does not sign with Baltimore by July 15, he can return to pitch for UCI in 2018.
Pallante, a freshman last spring, had not allowed an earned run in 4 1/3 relief innings through Thursday. He had allowed two hits, walked two and struck out four. He had not been involved in any decisions.
