High School Roundup: Ocean View High baseball tops Huntington Beach
Jack Rockefeller hit two home runs and drove in four runs as the Ocean View High School baseball team beat Huntington Beach 10-7 in a nonleague game Wednesday at Huntington Beach High.
Ethan Eisen and Caleb Hohman each had two hits and two runs batted in for Ocean View (1-1), with Hohman adding a home run. Jimmy Legg also had two hits and a run scored.
The visiting Seahawks broke the game open with a six-run sixth inning.
Caden Aoki, Mark Muranaka and Ralph Velazquez all hit home runs for Huntington Beach (1-1).
Fountain Valley 11, Edison 6: Austin Kolby was three for five with a double, triple and three runs scored for the Barons in Wednesday’s nonleague away game.
Ryan Sullivan and Keith Aguilar each had two hits and combined to drive in five runs for Fountain Valley (3-0).
Brandon Winokur had two hits and a run scored for Edison (1-1).
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Pacifica Christian Orange County 3, Estancia 0: Freshman Talia Proctor, freshman Payton Dobrick and junior Leila Bahnsen all scored goals for the Tritons in Wednesday’s nonleague match at Orange County Great Park.
Bahnsen and junior Cassandra Cross each had assists for Pacifica Christian (3-0), while center back Logan Bray and goalkeeper Jo Snyder helped the Tritons secure their third straight shutout.
Estancia is now 0-2.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Cerritos Valley Christian 3, Pacifica Christian Orange County 0: Buzz Hodson had 11 kills and two blocks for the host Tritons in Wednesday’s nonleague match.
Matthew MacPherson added eight kills and six digs for Pacifica Christian (1-2).
SOFTBALL
Newport Harbor 4, Long Beach Millikan 3: Eliana Gottlieb went three for three with two doubles, and Kendall Kelly drove in two runs for the Sailors in Wednesday’s nonleague game at home.
Gottlieb also provided a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh for Newport Harbor (3-0).
McKayla Cotton threw a complete game in earning the win, allowing one earned run on two hits.
Marina 6, Westminster 0: Makayla Mathis threw a complete game shutout for the Vikings on Wednesday in the nonleague contest at home.
The Vikings improved to 2-1 with the win.
Edison 6, Fountain Valley 4: Bella Espinoza had two hits and three runs batted in to lead the host Chargers on Wednesday in a nonleague game.
Emma Chickman also had two hits, driving in a run and scoring another for Edison (1-0).
Samara Ortega had two hits and two runs scored for Fountain Valley (0-2). Abby Hasty also had two hits, and Veronica Moore had two runs batted in.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Laguna Beach 14, St. Margaret’s 4: Ian MacLaughlin swept in singles for the Breakers in Wednesday’s nonleague match at Laguna Beach High.
Casey Boehm and Matt Berk swept in doubles for Laguna Beach (5-1).
GIRLS’ TENNIS
Ocean View 9, Garden Grove 9 (Ocean View wins 71-70 on games): Senior Kaitlyn Luhm swept her singles matches for the Seahawks in Wednesday’s Golden West League match.
Sophomore Roxana Azarkeyvan won twice in singles for Ocean View (2-2 in league), while Christina Ho and Rebecca Harter Foist also won twice in doubles.
