Orange County high school football players commit on early national signing day
Wednesday marked the first day high school seniors could sign a national letter of intent with a college football program, and many Orange County players took part on early national signing day.
Defending CIF State Division I-A champion Corona del Mar had three standouts — defensive back Tommy Griffin and linemen Thomas Bouda and Jake Trachtman — sign with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, while tight end Scott Giuliano committed to Harvard. The four players led the Sea Kings to a 16-0 season in 2019, including winning a CIF Southern Section Division 3 title.
Edison had three players commit in quarterback Braeden Boyles (Benedictine College), defensive back Jack Kosick (University of Pennsylvania) and lineman Jake Parsons (UC Davis). For Huntington Beach, running back Samuel Green picked UNLV.
Mission Viejo and Mater Dei led the county schools with seven and six signees, respectively.
The guidelines state that no athletic competitions can take place prior to Jan. 25. Sports are placed for return in corresponding color tiers, with football in the orange/moderate risk tier.
