Los Amigos’ Brian Pacheco receives Garden Grove League MVP in boys’ basketball
Los Amigos High senior guard Brian Pacheco has earned Garden Grove League MVP honors after helping the boys’ basketball team win its first league title since the 2001-02 season.
Pacheco averaged 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals per game in league play for Los Amigos (19-9, 9-1 in league). Los Amigos advanced to the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 5A playoffs before losing 58-54 at Acton Vasquez.
Lobos coach Larry Isaacs, who was voted the Garden Grove League Coach of the Year, said that his team’s victory over Calvary Chapel in the first round was the program’s first postseason win since 1984.
Los Amigos junior point guard Marco Vasquez was a first-team all-league pick. Vasquez averaged eight points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals per game in the league.
Los Amigos senior forward Michael Valencia, junior center Chris Gonzalez and sophomore guard Ata Khalil all earned second-team all-league honors.
Rancho Alamitos senior Colby Illingsworth earned league Offensive Player of the Year honors, while Santiago senior D’Angelo Bond-Zotea was the league’s Defensive Player of the Year.
