Irrelevant Week still set to take place in Newport Beach despite coronavirus concerns
Mr. Irrelevant has been coming to Newport Beach every year to party since 1976.
Organizers of Irrelevant Week, the event in Newport Beach that celebrates the last player selected in the NFL Draft, plan to bring Mr. Irrelevant back this summer to celebrate.
Irrelevant Week has not been canceled due to concerns over the coronavirus, Melanie Salata-Fitch, the event’s CEO, said via text message Tuesday.
“If this quarantine continues, we will probably push the usual timing [of Irrelevant Week] back to what works with the [New York] Giants’ practice sched[ule],” said Salata-Fitch, adding that the event usually takes place the last week in June.
The Giants have the Mr. Irrelevant pick this year, at No. 255.
The NFL Draft is still on for April 23-25, but due to the coronavirus, the NFL has canceled the public festivities surrounding the draft in Las Vegas.
