Estancia’s Xavier Castellano to coach in North-South Orange County All-Star boys’ basketball game
Estancia High boys’ basketball coach Xavier Castellano will coach the South team in the North-South Orange County All-Star Game on May 9 at Cypress College.
Five local players will also play for the South in the annual game, including Castellano’s center for the Eagles, Jake Covey.
Pacifica Christian Orange County forward Judah Brown, Corona del Mar guard Jack Stone, Los Amigos guard Brian Pacheco and Marina guard Ethan Barnella will represent the South. Stone is bound for Carnegie Mellon University, and Brown, who will play at St. Mary’s University, helped the Tritons (22-8) to a share of the San Joaquin League title and reach the CIF Southern Section Division 2A quarterfinals.
Castellano led Estancia (27-4) to the outright Orange Coast League title, its first league title since the 2004-05 season. The Eagles won 19 straight games before they were upset 49-46 at Santa Barbara Bishop Diego in the Division 5AA quarterfinals.
