IRVINE — The visiting Gauchos scored twice in the fourth inning to avoid a Big West Conference sweep Sunday at Anteater Ballpark.

Jonathan Hurst was two for four and Drew Hillman had a pinch-hit single to drive in the lone UCI run.

UCI (32-17, 12-6 and second in the conference) returned to the Baseball America top-25 poll at No. 25 on Monday.

BEAUMONT — Orange Coast College finished fifth, 14 shots behind victorious West Hills, in the California Community College State Championship Monday at Oak Valley Golf Club.

Joe Doody shot four-over-par 148 over 36 holes to pace the Pirates, for whom Kord Tagley (149), Ryan Knapp (155), Benny Santa Maria (155) and Tyler Paul (155) also stood out.

It was the best finish for OCC since at least 1991.
