BOYS’ TENNIS

The Corona del Mar High and Sage Hill School boys’ tennis teams both scored 14-4 victories to advance to the quarterfinals in their respective divisions of the CIF Southern Section playoffs Friday.

The Sea Kings (17-2), the No. 3 seed and the Pacific Coast League runner-up, won at Dos Pueblos of Goleta. CdM dominated in doubles, winning all nine sets. Shane Korber stood out in singles for the Sea Kings with a sweep, including a 6-1 win over Alexander Gryaznon.

CdM plays against Palos Verdes in Tuesday’s quarterfinals. A coin flip will decide the home team.

Sage Hill (9-10) won at Santa Ynez, which featured three sweeps, one coming in singles. Sophomore Alex Manolakas swept at No. 2, 6-0, 6-3, 6-0.

The No. 1 doubles team of Alex Koeberle and Kevin Marshack swept, 6-1, 6-1, 6-3. The No. 2 doubles team of Robbe Simon and Sean Battien also swept, 6-0, 6-1, 6-3

The Lightning will face Cate of Carpinteria in the quarterfinals. Sage will hope to win the coin flip to have a home match.

IRVINE — Michael Yorita went four for five with three runs batted in and three runs scored for the Lightning in their Academy League finale Thursday.

Darrren Hardy went three for four with two RBIs and one run, while Patrick Vorwerck went three for five with two runs and one RBI as part of a 20-hit attack for Sage Hill (17-5, 13-2 in league).
