Tournament of Champions

SANTA BARBARA — Corona del Mar High and Newport Harbor both advanced to today’s semifinals after winning two games each Friday.

The Sea Kings (14-0), ranked No. 1 in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll, will face Dos Pueblos. Newport Harbor (12-3), ranked No. 2 in CIF Division I, will take on Sunset League foe Los Alamitos.

CdM opened the tournament with a 12-2 win over Santa Margarita and scored a 7-4 victory in the quarterfinals against Montebello.

The Sailors beat Long Beach Wilson, 12-1, in the first round. They then took out Coronado, 8-3, avenging a loss they suffered to Coronado to open the season.

Junior goalie Krissy Burger recorded 12 saves in the Sailors’ win against Coronado. Senior Mia Butera and junior Kate Klippert scored two goals each for Newport Harbor in the win.

NEWPORT COAST — Juniors Megan Kim and Molly Vorwerck, along with freshman Maddie Culberson scored two goals apiece and had one assist each for the Lightning in their Academy League win Friday.

Juniors Hannah MacLeod and Jackie Dion scored one goal each. Senior Isa-Maria Taskinen, junior Jordan Team and Dion also had one assist each for Sage Hill (5-8-1, 2-1 in league).
