Costa Mesa police have arrested a man and a woman on suspicion of narcotics possession and child endangerment after detectives executed a search warrant of their Huntington Beach residence and found illegal drugs, including fentanyl, and a 6-year-old living there.

The police department posted about the bust Wednesday on Facebook, indicating the suspect was illegally selling fentanyl on an unnamed online marketplace when detectives working undercover reached out to set up a sale.

Officers arranged a purchase, then identified the seller and obtained a search warrant for his residence. When they arrived at the home, they discovered the suspect was living with a woman and young child, according to the post.

During the search warrant, detectives recovered 17 grams of fentanyl, 12 strips of suboxone — a prescription medication used to treat opioid addiction — a digital scale, packaging material and a BB rifle, along with an undisclosed amount of cash, police reported.

Drug paraphernalia was also found in plain view and within easy reach of the child. Both adults were arrested and booked on suspicion of possessing narcotics for sale and endangering a child.

Costa Mesa Police Department Lt. Ed Everett said Wednesday the identities of the two suspects were not being released as detectives continued their ongoing investigation. It is unclear who has custody of the child.
