Man arrested on suspicion of DUI in Huntington Beach collision that kills 2, injures 1

A 35-year-old Sunset Beach man was arrested on suspicion of DUI in a multi-vehicle collision Tuesday on Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach that killed two motorists and injured another, police reported.

Eric Kinser was allegedly driving a white 2007 Dodge Ram pickup truck northbound on the highway near the Bolsa Chica Conservancy off Warner Avenue just before 6:45 p.m., when he crossed over the center median into southbound lanes of traffic, according to a release issued Tuesday by the Huntington Beach Police Department.

His vehicle allegedly collided head-on with a silver 1999 Toyota Solara driven by a 19-year-old Newport Beach man and then struck a white 2012 Lexus RX350 occupied by a 71-year-old Huntington Beach woman and her passenger, a 45-year-old woman, the release stated.

Officers arrived on scene to find three vehicles with extensive damage in the southbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway.

The driver of the Lexus, pronounced dead at the scene at 6:55 p.m., has been identified by the Orange County coroner’s office as Cindy Zervos. Her passenger was taken to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana, where she was treated for moderate injuries.

Police report the driver of the Toyota was transported to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was pronounced dead at 8:08 p.m. His name has not yet been released, pending notification of family members, the coroner’s office confirmed Wednesday.

Kinser was also transported to UCI Medical Center, where he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the release. No booking information was available Wednesday.

Huntington Beach police’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team is investigating the incident.
